The lace transformation

Watch the lace transformation with me: in the top frame the lace is on the loom and under tension. It doesn’t look lacy at all. The middle frame shows the same scarf, off the loom but pre-wet finish. The lace started developing as I moved the fabric, finishing the edges, cutting weft overlapping tails, etc. The bottom frame shows lace fully developed after washing in hot water for the first time. Every time I weave lace, I am mesmerized by its transformation.

  1. This is huck and huck lace, woven with mercerized cotton on 4-shaft loom. I found a good pattern and description in free e-book “Free handweaving projects for beginners” in the “elegant placemats” project description.
