Recently I’ve been asked to weave a scarf. Just a scarf. As plain as it can get: no wild colors, no crazy patterns, no other fancy stuff. Totally boring, from my perspective. But I wanted to do it anyway. And just to amuse myself, I wound a warp for two scarves, and let my creative self run wild in the second one. Well, as wild as one can get on a set warp.
In addition to combination of basket weave and herringbone pattern, I got:
– a saori technique going to do the flames
– a nice tsumugi (noel) silk with nabs of different color
– a primary weft yarn made of cotton gima twisted around ramie thread.
All in all, I like the results.
Maybe it’s because I’m a new-ish weaver, but I like “boring”–I like the rhythm and the ease of making progress. But I like your flames, too!
